Halloween Wedding Cakes

Spooky Halloween Wedding Cakes

Halloween Cake from Pink Cake Box

I am definitely getting in the Halloween spirit (a hem). The air is crisp and cool, the leaves are changing color and starting to wreak havoc on the lawn, and hints of ghouls and goblin decor have been popping up here and there.  So what better time to get in the mood, than on Wedding Cake Wednesday?

So I am not a fan of the zombie rage. I know, I know. The Walking Dead show (or whatever it is called) is widely accredited by all my associates, yet I think it is just plain dumb. But I could maybe get behind it with a cake like this on the table.

I love me a black wedding cake.  I love black anything for a wedding.  I know it sort of goes against everything a wedding is supposed to represent, but I just think it is so cool in an off-beat kind of way.
And I am no kind of baker (I can't bake boxed cake even), but I know this must have been hard to pull off since you see EVERY mistake with black fondant.  And this looks pretty close to perfect.  Sadly, I don't know who the baker was... I'd love to give them the kudos they deserve.

This is one of the most detailed cakes I have ever seen.  And I am now wondering if I should get into cake decorating, cause this is awesome!!!

My favorite cake is one that is unexpectedly awesome on the inside.  The other day I found a leopard print cake on Pinterest and I have kind of been obsessed ever since.  This is PERFECT for Halloween!  Love it!

So would you do a Halloween wedding cake if your special day fell around the holiday?

Hot Wedding Trend: Morning After Photography

Hot New Wedding Trend: The Morning After Wedding Photo Shoot

Photo of the rings...check.  Photo of the shoes... check.  Photo of my husband and I getting raunchy.... say what?  So here's one more reason to feel guilty about not hitting the gym this morning... your wedding porn photo shoot.  Well, okay, that may be an exaggeration (for some ;),  but a hot new wedding trend is to get "Morning After" shots from the wedding, er, night. Ranging from the steamy to the cute, this new trend has some brides feeling more pressure than ever to look their most perfect.

What do you think of this new wedding trend, is it just an added stress, or is it a super cute idea? Do you think it is a perfect portrayal of your bond together, or is it a little too risque?

Unique Wedding Photos

Unique Wedding Photos

There are exactly two photos of my wedding: a kiss shot, and a front-on goofy-grin shot.  My husband and I eloped, and although it was perfect, romantic, beautiful, and totally "us"; it was, just us.  So the one thing I feel like I missed out on was the wedding album and being able to look back at all the moments that made the big day so special.  Good thing I can get my fill by living vicariously on Pinterest ;)

But that lack of an album inspired today's post showcasing some unique, fun, not your ordinary boring goofy-grin wedding shots. The kind I would have wanted if I didn't hop on a plane half way around the world to do the deed in private.  I hope they inspire you jump out of the box (perhaps even literally) during your photo session.

Fall is in the air...

Purple and Orange Wedding Inspiration Board
All Rights Reserved

So I am going to make a conscious effort to be more blog-happy.  And toward that endeavor, I thought I'd post a little inspiration.  I am in love with deep purple this season (I even redecorated my bedroom... from just boring dark grey to dark grey with deep purple... yum!) But I digress.  Deep purple is a perfect color for the season, and mixed with a pop of orange you have a sexy, sultry, high-impact combo that can't be beat for fall!

All the photos have credits, but you can link right up here:

What's your favorite fall wedding color combo?  Anything out of the ordinary?  Ooh, ooh, ooh... wouldn't a deep teal, espresso, and orange be a fabulous, unexpected combo for the season? Hmmm.. maybe tomorrow :)

Because we all know a brides' worst fear is a massive Ebola breakout at her wedding.

CDC’s Wedding Day Survival Guide

putting wedding ring on finger
By Caitlin Shockey
We’re sure it’s just a fluke that wedding season happens to coincide with hurricane season. Ensuring that everything is perfect for the big day requires a great deal of strategy, coordination, and patience. As you gather your nearest and dearest to celebrate what should be a joyful time, Mother Nature, clashing personalities, and unexpected situations could easily thwart even the best laid plans. Being in the throes of wedding season, many of us here at CDC realized that planning for a wedding isn’t that much different from planning for a disaster. Just remember: Get a Kit, Make a Plan, and Be Informed.

The Hot Pink Wedding

Hot pink wedding

So I just moved into the cool girl's club and got myself an iphone!  I don't know how I survived without one.  I have an app for project managment, an app for expense management and this awesome app for creating super quick, super cute photo collages!  I can't wait to create a zillion inspiration boards.  This one is inspired by... you guessed it. A Hot Pink Wedding we're working on :)

Signature Wedding Cocktails

Signature Drinks for Your Wedding

I was reading through an old copy of Indianapolis Monthly this morning and came across a gorgeous photo of a fabulous hibiscus flower champagne cocktail offered at one of our local restaurants, Petite Chou, and although I hadn't finished my first cup of joe, I thought... Alcohol!  That's what I'll write about today!
I had a bride about a year ago who, rather than going with an open bar (a potentially disasterous, not to mention expensive) had a champagne bar with four different signature champagne cocktails.  I thought not only is this a cute idea, but it is a great way to save a little money, and to continue a theme throughout the entire event.  After all, if people are going to get tipsy, they might as well do it with your style and grace at the helm, right?

So first is the hibiscus flower cocktail:

Wild Hibiscus Flower Garnish
2/3 oz. Wild Hibiscus Flower Syrup
5 oz champagne

~Pour syrup, flower, and champagne into chilled champagne glass~

You can purchase wild hibiscus flowers in syrup from WildHibiscus.com a jar with enough flowers and syrup to make 50 cocktails is $35.00 (a steal for such a fabulous presentation)!  Create a champagne bar by including Bellini's, Poinsettia's and Ritzy' Raspberry Revelry's... find recipes for these, and 47 other fabulous champagne cocktails here.

Although I don't partake as often as I once did, I have been known to enjoy a little vodka here and there, and Grey Goose is by far my favorite.  The Grey Goose Summer Garden cocktail would be a perfect addition to a vodka bar.

Grey Goose® Summer Garden Cocktail:
1 1/4 parts GREY GOOSE® Vodka
3/4 parts Sambuca®
1/4 part Pernod®
1 oz chilled water
edible dried lavendar for garnish

~Add all liquids in a shaker filled with ice, shake, and strain into a chilled glass~

Other yummy drinks to include in your Vodka bar: Amour Rouge, Lemon Drop (a personal fav), and the Piedmont Peach. For recipes, click here

*** In addition to mixed vodka drinks at your signature vodka bar, a new trend is to create infused vodkas using fruits and herbs and spices.  How about a cinnamon-apple infused vodka, or a lemon-blueberry infused vodka... I am so going to have to try this at home!
Place ingredients in a large botttle, pour over vodka, and  let the concoction sit for about 2 weeks prior to using.  Be sure to strain well through a cheesecloth to remove any particles.
A tequila bar doesn't have to be just shots of Patron or your everyday margarita.  Try the Tequila Sunrise

2 oz Tequila
4 oz orange juice
3/4 oz grenadine

~Mix tequila and orange juice in a glass.  Using a flat handled spoon, add the grenadine quickly allowing it to run down the back side of the spoon so it sinks to the bottom.  It will slowly rise up creating the sunrise effect~

Other tequila pleasures to try: the Agave Kiss (a yummy chocolatey, raspberry taste of heaven), the Cantarino, and the Old Lay.

Pic courtesy of Colonel Tiki's Drinks

Or rather than choosing a drink based on a theme (your color scheme, or type of alcohol), choose a signature cocktail based on something relevant to your courtship-- it can be a non-alcoholic Orange Julius because that's where you met, or maybe a margarita because your favorite restaurant is El Pollo Loco (I know they don't serve alcohol, but mexican food and margarita's naturally go together).  Mine would be the 7 & 700-- a concoction my husband and I came up with early in our relationship when we ran out of 7-up and substituted Schmirnoff Ice in our Seagrams 7 & 7's.  It's tasty, but hurts in the morning ;)

Not sure what kind of drink could be your signature?  Check out Stirrings.  The stirrings site makes choosing a drink based on your event theme a breeze. Simply choose your event type, your color scheme, and your preferred drink type (shaken, stirred, etc.) and voila! A list of drink possibilities pops up!  So cool!

Shana And Travis's Wedding

I am so excited to share some of the fab photo's of my girl Shana's gorgeous resort wedding. Not only was it gorgeous, it looked like hella fun! Congrats guys!!!

The dudes hit the pool before the ceremony...

He was pretty excited to see her for the first time (who wouldn't be... she's stunning!!)

Lovely!  White on white... my fav!

Love the color she chose... a gorgeous indigo with gold accents for the reception.  Love!

Here's my favorite!  The menus (of course by Revelry Invitation Studio) mirror the invitations with tons of layers in gorgeous Persian Blue and Gold.  The invitations had a custom damask pattern embossed on them... we had to use a cake stencil to make it work.  We shared that with the bride, who then ordered the same stencil to use on her cake.  And I must say, it is too pretty to eat!!!

I love that the band was the "spasmatics" and I LOVE, LOVE that everyone spazzed out on the dance floor!  Looks like a fabulous wedding for a fabulous couple!

Unique Wedding Venues

I love interesting and unexpected wedding venues, so I thought I would seek out some of the coolest, unique, and down right weird wedding venues.  Well, weddings on a gorgeous rented yacht may not be the most unique idea, but how about getting hitched on a The Tiki Beach Yacht in South Florida?  It's a floating tiki bar complete with sand floor!

Underwater weddings are becoming a huge destination wedding selling point in Korea and Thailand.  You can either convince your guests to come down in the blue with you, or they can broadcast live streaming video at the surface so guests don't have to get wet.  Be sure to bring an extra wedding gown and tux for after-ceremony celebration.

Or if you're totally nuts, you can get wed in the sky.  Again, I would sugget bringing a change of clothes (at least I would definitely need a change after that).

Of course, you can get hitched about the USS Enterprise (sort of...)  Cruise Trek is an organization that develops Star Trek based excursions all over the world.  Just think, you can be surrounded by hundreds of your closest alien friends while saying your vows in Klingon (which you can learn how to do at The Klingon Language Institute

How about in a giant bird's nest?  (Images via Snippet and Ink which is a total treat to read.  Check it out!)

Other kooky ideas:
Cemetery
Race Track
Football Stadium
Corn Maze
On a Flatbed Truck
Radio City Music Hall (no, I don't know if they allow it)
Hot Air Balloon
Sky Diving
In a Semi-Trailer

Wish Upon A Wedding...

So I just signed up as a volunteer with a fabulous network of wedding vendors who'd like to make a real impact on someone's life.   Wish Upon A Wedding is an organization that provides weddings at destinations across the United States for individuals facing life-threatening illness. It is a chance for couples to enjoy a very special day, without any thoughts of existing health issues, while surrounded by their closest family and friends. Since January, when it was founded in San Fransisco, 15 chapters have popped up across the country, and with such an awesome goal, I anticipate a ton more will sprout up by the end of the year.

Beth and Nick were the Chicago chapter's first "wish" wedding.  They were married April 18, 2010 (Congrats)!!!!

Beth and Nick had been together for almost 10 years when Beth was diagnosed with urachal adenocarcinoma. A few short weeks later, as she was about to undergo surgery to remove part of her bladder, her navel and several lymph nodes, Nick quietly returned to the jewelry store they had visited together and purchased the engagement ring. That evening, Nick proposed.  And although it has undoubtedly been a difficult road and Beth will continue the fight for her life, Beth and Nick had the wedding they always dreamed of thanks to vendors who donated their time, money, expertise, and compassion via Wish Upon A Wedding.

Here are a couple pics of items and services donated that made this dream-come-true wedding come true...

Floral and Event Design: Blumen Floral and Event Design, Amy Crum

Wedding Dress: Bridal Mansion of Lisle, Jane Skarosi

Wedding Cake: Take the Cake, Mary Winslow

Rentals and Linens: Classic Party Rental, Sandy Sobczak
Wedding Location and Food: Giovan’s Restaurant, Giovan Cullota
Lighting: Frost Lighting, Samantha Steele

Photography: Gerber and Scarpelli Weddings, Kurt Gerber
Makeup: Starlight Makeup, Lillian Toma

You can read their story, and see a complete list of the vendor's who shared their services on the Wish upon a Wedding website.

The story touched my heart... it's honestly hard not to tear up thinking about it.  Knowing there is an organization where I can donate my time and expertise to a couple who will forever cherish those precious moments together, makes me feel good about the world.  We often get wrapped up in deadlines, number-crunching, production, and all the general hulabaloo of the wedding industry and forget the whole reason we're in it.  To make dreams come true.

I hope all you vendors out there will check out the org, and sign up as a wish granter.

Thanks for reading ;)
