Lets face it. The state of the economy is making many of us a little scared about what our future pocketbooks are going to look like. Planning a wedding in a down economy can be a bit scary--but there may actually be some benefits. For example, many large venues may give discounted rates due to a lag in their bookings. See what kind of events are being held at your potential reception site, and get a feel for how booked they are. If you need to book a year in advance, chances are their doing okay, but if you can book anytime, there may be some room for negotiation in terms of the price for the rented space, or even discounted food and alcohol for a large group. That goes for hotel space as well. If you need a block of rooms for your guests, you may be able to get an additional discount if you see their rooms aren't filling up. Simply check their website availability on the dates you need. If a bunch of rooms are available, chances are they may be willing to negotiate an even better price than their group rate.
